Creating a Daily Reading Habit
Read at the same time every day. This is a surefire way to make your reading habit a regular part of your routine. I bet you brush your teeth at the same time every day right? And you never forget to do it. For me, I have found that readings works best for me at the “book-ends” of the day; first thing in the AM and last thing before I go to bed. Find what time of day works best for you and do it everyday at the same time or at least in the same order of your daily routine.
Enlist a habit tracker. Find my fun habit tracker coloring bookmark HERE to help you kick off your 2023 reading challenge. This would be a great way to have your kids join you in the reading challenge as well. I know a goal for me is raising a generation of readers. Print double-sided and color one segment for every 15 minutes of reading completed. I would love it if you’d share our reading movement with friends. You can share by sending this blog post or directing them to the Bookish Flights website for the habit tracker download. From there, social media is a great way to share as well, tag #BF2023ReadingChallenge.
Find a reading buddy. Do you have a bookish friend that you go to for book recommendations? This would be a great person to pair up with and start a mini book club. It is a wonderful way to keep you accountable.
Consider the time of day you read and the type of book. Maybe you have a morning read and an evening read. I think most of us can place ourselves firmly in the “morning person” or “night owl” category. By this categorization, I would assume most of us get the most of our brain function at this chosen time of the day. I use the “best” part of my day to read a book that requires more brain power to digest or consume - usually my non-fiction/self-improvement/spiritual read.. And for me the evening is when I choose a lighter or easier read, since I am tired from the day.
How have you nourished your reading habit? Are there any ideas you are going to try? Tell us in the comments below!
I hope you find 1 tip to implement or maybe try them all. Here’s to a great year of reading ahead!
Love what you read?
I’d love if you shared it with a bookish friend! Thank you!
