Books and The Powerful Impact of Friendships

How they Shape and Enrich Our Lives

I truly believe that the right book comes into you life when you most need it. If you have listened to even one episode of the show, you know this is closing quote on each episode. Case in point - last week as we said goodbye to friends who are moving across the country. At the same time that week, I was reading The Extraordinary Deaths of Mrs. Kip by Sara Brunsvold. There is so much wisdom in this book and most especially in that moment for me was the themes of friendship and companionship throughout the book. This quote hit me like a freight train when I read it.

We don’t stay long in each other’s lives— that’s the crux of our humanness. You have to be the friend people need while they are there with you, because it’s the only chance you’ll get.
— The Extraordinary Deaths of Mrs. Kip by Sara Brunsvold

What a beautiful quote about loving people in the short time you may have with them. I have had a few times in our many moves, that I thought I would not put myself out there because life was busy or we were only going to be living there for such a short time. There are so many excuses we can tell ourselves. But wow, reflecting on that quote above, gives us so much insight. You just might be the answer to someone’s prayers, the shoulder to cry on, the light in their world, the list goes on. So the next time, we make up some silly excuse to not put ourselves out there, let us remember this quote. We never know if we have tomorrow or how long we will have these friends, so put yourself out there and make your time together count. There was one other quote about friendship that really resonated:

We should never underestimate the life-changing gift of friendship.
— The Extraordinary Deaths of Mrs. Kip by Sara Brunsvold

This book is a MUST read! Here is a brief synopsis of the book - An ambitious reporter named Aidyn Kelly is given the assignment of writing an obituary for Mrs. Kip, a woman who has recently been placed in hospice. I know this sounds like it could be a rather depressing read, but I promise you it is not. Mrs. Kip is one of my favorite types of characters, a fiesty older woman, that is going to make Aidyn work at her job of writing her life story through an obituary. I had the absolute pleasure of interviewing Sara Brunsvold and her episode is set to release on January 17th, 2024. Stay tuned!

What other books have you read that have inspired you surrounding friendships? Or what characters have friendships you would love to emulate?
